The goal of math classes at Pacem is for students to become excellent problem solvers and to become confident in the use of the sophisticated tool that is mathematics. Generally math at Pacem is taught in an integrated format following the Singapore Math approach. Because of our small size, our math classes typically have students with a broad spectrum of math backgrounds and proficiency. To accommodate this, students will spend some time working on skills independently or in small groups. Other times students will work in large multi-level groups to tackle real world problems. It is our expectation that all students who complete the high school program at Pacem will, at a minimum, be proficient in math concepts generally covered in algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry, as outlined by the Common Core State Standards. Many students will go further into the subjects of pre-calculus and calculus and some may choose to study other mathematical subjects such as statistics in greater depth.
