This event is part of our year-long them: “Celebrating Citizenship.”   It felt to many of us that, over the past few months, the world we live in has taken a turn toward a hard and negative edge in ways that are quite opposite Pacem’s philosophy and approach to learning. At the first Teachers’ Circle of the year we decided that it is an important time to counterbalance that by underlining our view of the world around us—embracing diversity and lending a hand to others—that defines our community at its best. By giving the students opportunities to express a positive and joyous world view and by participating with them in activities that celebrate being a positive part of the community we can support their development of a deeper understanding We plan to do this through a series of activities—movies and discussions, community service projects, and events—over the year that will counterbalance some of the negativity in the news and larger culture today.
